Hi guys

For quite awhile now , i have been meaning to do this because i have gotten quite a few questions on how my hair went from a lowcut to an afro in such a short while .(2 years isnt really short but ya )

After cutting my hair twice , I started my hair journey on January 1st 2019. I tried all sort of shit and products on my hair so for as long as a year,I couldn't tell what was my “hair regime”. when I braided for the first time in the 6th month, I saw the growth but I had been using so many products so I had no idea what had helped

Another thing , when I first cut my hair in march 2018, my goal was to grow my hair, but the second time in December 2018 I wanted moisture because anyone who knew my hair texture then would compare it to iron sponge .

Now fast forward to 2021, I am able to say “this is my routine, this is what I recommend” and I have achieved my goal which was to have soft hair.

I DO THIS :

  1. basics: I leave it alone. 9/10 times my hair is in braids. I rarely ever leave my hair out. my hair grows more when i plait it and its always been like that for me .
  2. POROSITY : It is very important to find out the porosity of your hair because that is what determines if your method is going to be LOC or LCO. trust me , this is very important because it can make or break your moisture . i use LCO because my hair is low porosity .
  3. keeping it clean: because my hair is in braids most of the time, i wash it like once every 2 weeks. find the right shampoo because many can be stripping.
  4. SILk: your bonnet or silk scarf is your best friend

With these being said i want to go into what exactly i do and what i use for my hair

  1. After braiding my hair, i oil it once every week. i also spray it with conditioner and water once it gets old (before i loosen it )
  2. When i am loosening it, i use water and conditioner to detangle and put the hair in a twist. this really helped me reduce the amount of hair i shed because i don't comb my hair dry. use any conditioner of your choice , mix with water and spray your hair .
  3. after I'm done I put on my shea butter and the oil I use for prepoo which is olive oil. i cover my hair and steam it(no heat )for 30 minutes, sometimes for a whole day. prepoo is important for retaining moisture after shampooing .
  4. then my wash day starts .
  5. shampoo : the shampoo I use is Argan oil morocco shampoo and sometimes the shea moisture raw shea butter moisture retention shampoo. i wash my scalp and use the remaining residue to wash the hair strands because cleaning the scalp is more important . another very important thing to do is to wash in sections. I wash my hair in 4 sections . washing it all at once caused my hair to have alot of knots .
  6. conditoner : most times i don't condition my hair. i only do that when i don't detangle properly after i loosen my hair. for me the conditioner is to help me detangle after shampooing and all that so I skip this stage most times. the products i use are the shea moisture raw shea butter restorative conditoner and the argan oil morocco conditoner .
  7. deep conditioning : now this is a step I dont miss even if I detangle my hair properly. I use the hair mayonnaise by Originals . I apply and leave it on for 30 minutes. seeing as I have low porosity hair, steaming is a good way for the product to penetrate into my hair . so I steam ( use steaming cap) for 30 minutes and then wash it off
  8. Drying : i dont use heat on my hair . I air dry
  9. twists/LCO : While my hair is air drying , I start to do my twists . i use the LCO METHOD ( LEAVE IN, CREAM AND OIL) sometimes LCOB (LEAVE IN, CREAM AND OIL AND BUTTER). i section my hair , use my leave in, next my cream and finally use my oil to seal it all up before twisting. i do this all around my hair . the products I use are

a. leave in : shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil strengthen and restorative leave in conditioner ,Cantu shea butter leave in conditioning( Its the only cantu product i will ever recommend lol)

b. cream : i want to start by saying this is the most amazing product i have ever used .ever since. started using it , my hair can go up to 2 weeks without water and still feel hydrated. its so silky soft and smells amazing . its called the sunny isle shea coconut curling creme infused with Jamaican black castor oil. this shit is the bomb.

c. OIL: I will always recommend Jamaican black castor oil because this thing grew my hair alot. but the oil is so expensive so instead of using that, I decided to buy products that had this particular oil in it. The oil I use right now is the alma oil ( it smells horrible so at your own risk) . tik tok recommended it to me. I also use grape-seed oil . both are really good .

d. Butter : this is a once in a while thing for me tbh. but when i do it, i use shea butter.

10. now my hair is in twists and its resting until i braid my hair again. i could choose to un twist and leave my hair in a fro BUT I prefer braiding after ( like 3/4 days after )

11. then we start from step 1 again

I guess this is what you can say I do to take care of my hair. depending on how damaged your hair is , you could add protein treatments after deep conditoning . trim your hair often , those split ends have to go!
